Bill McGlynn, CAST Program Director, has spent almost three decades using the performing arts to teach and inspire young people and audiences alike. After witnessing the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and the hate crime at Live Café on January 6, he says he needed to do something.

McGlynn was in the middle of planning the next CAST virtual production at the time. He decided to pause and create a new performance piece that speaks to those events.

“Those (January 6) events do not reflect who we are,” says McGlynn. “I wanted to find a way to celebrate events that represent the best of us.”

The result is CAST Tells the Story, a virtual production that celebrates the lives of John Lewis and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the last two people to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol before the riot. The production incorporates spoken passages, historical footage and songs. The production is written by Bill McGlynn and directed by Bill McGlynn and Ty Perry, with music direction and video editing by Jake Hartge.

Forty-three students are involved in the production and rehearsals have begun. This FREE show will air on March 1 at 7:30 pm. Info on how to get tickets here.
