New Crew Program for Girls

 

CAST is excited to announce a new Crew program designed especially for girls interested in learning the stagecrafts needed to mount a theatre production!

Called DesignCORE, this program is made possible by a grant from the Henry E. Reid Memorial Scholarship Fund. It is designed to teach girls the skills they need to qualify for and lead the Run Crew, the group of student crew members hand-picked to work backstage on show night.

The DesignCORE has a meeting each week in addition to the Saturday full crew calls. Meetings are run by women designers and stagecraft mentors from Chicago’s professional theatre industry.

Sessions cover such topics as

  • Creating a stage manager’s prompt book

  • Programming intelligent lighting

  • Digital sound design and midi control systems

  • Social media and public relations strategies to build audience numbers
